the best that ever was.the excitement of the 1972 world championship match was unheard of in this country.chess was considered boring but fischer brought it to a high level of entertainment.though his personal views and mental health issues came to the forefront,fischer will always be the man who brought chess from an old mans game to an acceptable skill and sport for all.

I don't think anyone today can possibly appreciate the way this guy captured the imagination of the whole US back in 1972. He was a freakin rock star. He beat the Russians at their own game. When US schools began their fall 72 semesters, Chess clubs couldn't handle the mobs that signed up in the wake of his stunning victory.
