Yuri Gagarin video: 50th anniversary of the first man in space

Tuesday, 12th of April 2011, marks the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin, and the 30th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle flight. In that time astronauts have landed on the moon, flown in the space shuttle, lived on the International Space Station and trained for a mission to Mars. The boundaries of the human world have rapidly expanded - from the first nomadic tribes to a solar system populated with space probes. Yuri Gagarin's achievement stands as one of the great firsts, an achievement that ushered in a new age for humankind.

This is a tribute video I made to celebrate the beginning of human spaceflight, the triumph of human ambition, curiosity and ingenuity.
