A video review of the classic Casio CZ-101, a mini-key digital synthesizer from 1985.
In this four-part video, I describe the features of the Casio CZ-101, present examples from its sounds, and show a few techniques to program new sounds on it.
thank you for the very informative video! I just found an excellent condition cz-101 in a music shop today and your review convinced me to buy it. wish me luck!
Hey. You could do so much better if you make a research about analog synthesis. With that knowledge you'll be able to understand by yourself not only the CZ programming, but almost any synth (we're not talking about granular or FM synths, which are crazy rocket science) around, since they mostly are analog to analog synths, even being digital. Learn about LFO, Envelopes, Oscillators, Voltage Controlled Filter and its emulations and you'll be soon creating you own patches form scratch, believe me
thanks - you da man- -very helpful

Great tutorial/overview.
I'd like to get one. I presume that they are primarily sought after as they take up less space than the other CZ series?

Best demo vid I've ever seen! Please do more. Maybe an Arp Axxe? I've had one for years and it's a mystery every time I play with it.

look at how this guy is rocking those tiny keys, they're almost impossible to play well and this guy makes it look like nothing

the reason people want cz-101s is because they look so much cooler onstage and there easy to carry around
