(IB English project)
In "The Death of Phlebas" I put into pictures many of the ideas and emotions I took from Elliot's great poem "The Waste Land," with a special concentration on Elliot's discomforting take on man's mortality. I intend for my film to illustrate that in the complicated modern world the only certainty is death, an idea that I believe lay heavily on Elliot's mind as he was writing "The Waste Land." Also, because Elliot focused so heavily on imagery (and because it is easier on a budget) I wanted to keep the film as simple as possible, no dialogue, no plot, few characters. I wanted the style I used to give a connotation I adapted Elliot's words into a short film format using disturbing and wasteland imagery, a theme of mortality, an experimental editing style, and a dissonant soundtrack.
