To Go Beyond the Prospectless Malaise

Tell me: are you able to find & eat 20 local plants & animals within 20 miles walking distance?

What will you do as this 400-generation-old culture kills itself by killing the land? As civilization devours the life of its host? As it passes through continents?

What do we do with the knowledge that today's rapid species loss is 1,000 to 11,000 times higher than the 'background' or expected natural extinction rate?

You didn't argue that a switch to domestic drilling will be in anyway environmentally sound or democratically responisble,

You pay attention to profit, you're a slave to corporations and the owners of capitalism- you're a probably a worker who doesn't own an oil company, so you're deep in ignorance.

Read recent scientific literature from universities and journals to become informed about the environment- don't listen to environmentalists or socialists

"We will drown in Oil" is obviously false.

There will be marginal gains, not substantially new reserves competing with Middle Eastern sources in terms of size and duration.

The consumption of oil will outpace supply in any case. this is a scientific fact.

Oil is being replaced by other forms of energy. Some of these are fossil fuels and some are renewable sources. You seem to see the collapse of our economy as a good thing. You do realize that this would mean the death of millions if not billions? It would not be the rich but the poor, especially those in the developing world that would no longer be able to sustain their populations.

The Indians of North America are likely the worst possible defense. Certain tribes, the Mohawks are a fine example, were incredibly war-like. There is even a documented case of Hurons consuming the flesh of a captured member of a rival tribe in a ritualized fashion. They didn't behave as purely as some might have you believe. Also, why is it that elevated testosterone levels have been correlated with higher levels of social dominance? Is this simply a cultural phenomenon?

this isn't true either- north america prior to being domesticated by civilization was remarkably abundant: cod sailors pulled out of teeming waters with buckets, flocks of passenger pigeons that darkened the sky, herds of buffalo so long that a horseman riding a day wouldn't get to the end. all off these species have predictably become extinct given their exposure to this culture. and not because indians were too dumb to kill them off but because they didn't think like the civilized did.

As far as we can tell, conflict was prevalent amongst the tribes of the Americas and Europe. When faced with scarcity man predictably resorts to violence. Genuine egalitarianism is and was a rarity.
