PICTON, ON - countynews.ca Enthusiastic supporters of Maple in the County crowded into Clifford Foster's sugar shack this morning for a preview of what is to come.
Maple in the County is in its tenth year in Prince Edward County. It's an annual event now run by Taste the County, the region's destination marketing group.
Executive director, Kathleen Kennedy told the crowd the 2011 event has about 100 local partners who help make it happen.
"Some statistics from last year will help show you the kind of impact Maple has in this community."
Kennedy said at the 2010 event there were 5500 breakfasts served to about 9000 visitors during the weekend event.
"We figure that amounts to between 6 and 8 full time, year-round jobs in this community," said Kennedy.
"This has been a super event for producers," said Ron Hubbs of Hubbs Sugar Bush, speaking on behalf of all County producers.
Maple in the County runs this year March 26-27 at venues throughout Prince Edward County. More information at http://mapleinthecounty.ca.
