www.TruckingFantastic.com Big Log trucks on dirt roads in British Columbia - Volvo, Pacific, Hayes, Kenworth, Peterbilt. Now look at "Three Truck Tow" - three 500 hp trucks moving one 150 tonne load. Probably the best off road truck drivers in the World.
Music from BC guitar legend Doug Cox -http ://cdbaby.com/cd/coxbutler

This sequence is available in HD at www.TruckingFantastic.com taken from my most excellent DVD about Logging - available on both sides of the Atlantic and NZ and Australia. Lots about trucking, timber skidding, dry land sort, timbermills and trains.

Take a look at www.truckingFantastic.com. DVD and video available in North America and UK. Type Dylan Winter and Loggers into Google

  • Does anyone mind explaining a bit more specific about the "breaking system" on these trucks? Did he say: "I use the re-charger more then i use the brakes"

So, there are 3 types of brakes, as i said. Someone, please explain :)

  • @Znitso I b4eleive that they have an engine retarder (jake brake), conventional breakpads 0 which are water cooled and also an electro magnetic system (which I understand not at all). If anyone has a better explanation I would love to hear it. I am only a humble cameraman

  • cool vids! would love to see the full length version of this

  • Its called Loggers....

available from Old Pond in the UK and Diamond Farm in the USA

  • @Znitso I drive an off highway logging truck, and the these trucks have 3 different means of slowing them down. The foundation brakes, witch we cool with water on steep or long hills, the "jake" or engine brake, and the retarder. The Retarder works on oil pressure in the transmission to slow the truck down. If you have any questions feel free to email me and I will explain in greater detail. Byron

  • @dylanwinter1 ya your right about the brakes on them trucks they got water cooled foundations and a valve brake (jake) and the retarder which is the magnetic setup on the drivline im not totally sure how its works but know that it uses magnetic force to slow the driveline down

  • The comment (frying the diff) If you use the jake and or the retarder on a steep switch back your inside drivers can not keep traction trying to do all the braking of the load, as the load shifts to the out side they will start to skip and grab blowing up the diff or the axels maybe even the drive line.

  • @BlackMac525 Thank you for your reply :) So they have watercooled brakes aswell? Wow, i only thought that racetrucks had that.

  • @Znitso the have a hydrolic retarder behind the automatic allison 6 speed tranny some also have a jake brake on the engine as well as water cooled brakes the retarder peddle is where the clutch would be

  • @Znitso It's called the retarder .

  • @Apheres these trucks were built back in the 60's/70's and that technology related to diesel electric locomotives....called Dynamic Braking in todays terms.

I'm keen to learn the technology in this as Iv'e never heard of a truck using electro mag braking.

There is such a thing being used as kinetc braking/acceleration???

  • @RISINGTENSION i dont care about recycling mother nature can suck meh dick logging is the way to go and if you dont like it wipe your ass with plastic

  • @Apheres Ah ok, really heplpfull. I think i understand it now. Thank you for your answer!

  • @Znitso A Retarder is a magnetic braking system. Basically it's a stator mounted in the chassis. The stator is made up of electric coils. The rotors are placed on both ends of the stator and are fixed to the propeller shaft which runs in the middle. When the stator is activated, the electric coils use energy from a spare battery and creates a magnetic field which slows down the rotors thus slowing the prop shaft thus slowing down the vehicle.
