I can see what you mean. And I love BG2's Music.
Yet my example would be The Elder Scrolls. Morrowind's Music is very creative, but Oblivion made the Theme very (!) much like the LotR-OST. I'm not saying everything has to have a different musical style than LotR, but a little bit more creativiy and diversity would be great.

@libertydenied LotR has influenced many things, but to say that todays game osts are a ripoff of the LotR movies is not true.
Just listen to the Baldurs Gate 2 or Diablo Soundtracks. They have been around even before the LotR movies were made and they have that kind of sound.
It's just what fits these kind of games. A jazz soundtrack would seem totally silly there.

But you have to remember that in the game's canon, he is technically the one making these games, so he would have to have okay'ed this theme himself for it to be in the game.

The only game I've ever played to come with a scratch-and-sniff card! What an amazing & unique idea. How I miss Sierra and the golden age of PC gaming.
