A female U.S. soldier in a combat zone is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire. In fact, The Department of Defense estimates that in 2010 alone, there were more than 19,000 violent sex crimes in the U.S. military.

Oscar and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick investigates one of America's most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. This film prompted U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to announce substantial changes in policy that strengthen the prosecution of rape in the military.

True, but the number of rape victims in the military is staggering. You have to admit that and it's the fact that these guys aren't getting letters of reprimand or fired or facing punishment. That is the real problem. Women can be medics in the Army. Many do see combat.

surprised they rape women recruits?? hell some of those 18 yr old rednecks would likely rape a perceivedly "weak" fellow male recruit if the opportunity presented itself. In fact I think group attacks of that nature have even been reported. Best bet: stay out of the military, that is what I tell my own kids ! Not worth it.

One of the problems I see with way the media and society treat these rape epidemics is that they tend to focus on the victim. I think the victims deserve our sympathy and help but they are not the problem it is the rapists how are the problem, they need to be named and shamed. We should find out what is causing rapists to engage in this beavered and put a stop to it and punish the guilty, not tell victims what they shod or shod-not do to too avoid being raped.

Your right I did sign a contract and know where on my contract did it say that I am agreeing to be rapped by MY OWN PEOPLE! The number of women being rapped is horrible but what is even more horrible is the fact that nothing happens to these animals, and people defend them. Well if I am a killer because I am a soldier I pray that all killers are like me because I have never killed anyone. While deployed all I did was save lives BOTH Americans and Afghans. There are soldiers who go over there and don't even carry a weapon they are defenseless (chaplains) but I guess they deserve to get rapped by the people they work with too because according to you we all go over there to kill even though a lot if us haven't killed anybody....stereotype and ignorance
