One of the most important things about working with the younger set is to get them involved immediately in some action. There is a lot of stuff to know about video but if you bite it off a few chunks at time you have the opportunity of developing skills and the eye. This tute is about THE RULE OF THIRDS and CUT ON THE ACTION. I wanted to emphasize to my two young videographers that you plan your shots and frame your subjects. So you will see, in this video taken by two teens, so two angles for most shots, that we maintain something of interest in the thirds of our screen. Also, to emphasize the height difference we shoot up to the tall person. We frame the conversing subjects purposely on the left and right. After the 3 person shoot we return to the doors and open them for the camera and then cut the in on the action. We also learned that being a video artist requires you become an audio artist as well and we went out of our way to record, separately, the dialogue and sounds of the scene and boosted them for the final product. Later on well have a look at those cam angles and evaluate them and also discuss white balance and when to go hand held.
