2008 La Salle Explorers Over St Joe's 90-89 (The whistle blowing incident)

La Salle's Rodney Green goes to the foul line with 1.4 seconds left and La Salle ahead 90-89 but is called for an offensive lane violation after being distracted by a whistle in the crowd. A last ditch inbounds play by St. Joseph's is botched, and the La Salle Explorers beat NCAA team St. Joe's for the first time in seven years. The referees had neglected to call an intentional foul against St. Joe's which should have given the Explorers back the final possession. The refs also took away the second free throw attempt that Green was entitled to because they assumed he had faked the shot to try to draw St. Joe's off the line, although that was not the case. Green was distracted by a whistler in the crowd and thought it should have been a dead ball. Nevertheless, La Salle survived with the 90-89 win.

This is definitely my best memory from college. I hope everyone heard the whistle from the St. Joe's side that caused Rodney's violation on the foul shot. Great game, thanks for posting.

How is that a lane violation though? He never crossed the line. Couldn't the refs here the whistle in the crowd? Why not stop the game, get on the microphone and tell whoever is blowing the whistle to stop or the home team will receive a technical? Either way, very wierd play.
