April 17, 2009. Companies were dispatched to a building fire at the Dollar Store and Marlton Ave. and Benson St. First companies in reported heavy smoke from a strip of stores. The battalion chief hit a second alarm and then a third within just a few more minutes. The Dollar Store was becoming well-involved and smoke was showing from the entire row of the one-story building, about 200 feet long. It took about three hours to get the fire under control, but the entire building was destroyed. Two firefighters and a police officer suffered smoke inhalation. This video starts about 15 minutes into the job. All firefighters had been ordered out of the building by this time due to rapidly deteriorating conditons. Please watch in full-screen mode......

  • is it jut me or are they using a ladder bucket on the 1st floor

  • Yes, Tower Ladder 3 directed its stream in the first floor windows. They were earlier working the facade/roofline above. You don't indicate where you live, but this is quite common in the Northeast .Using tower ladders and Squrts this way provides a moving master stream with excellent penetration in these situations.

  • @Psimp114 yes , my company does this also many do for fires like this it works well

  • @barsboxer Fdny Jockers? They are way busier than fdny.... and paid less. 201 arson fires and only a population of 80 thousand.... vs a population of 8,391,881 for nyc. Nothing against fdny, but damn get your facts straight.

  • @barsboxer actually, camden has no eq2b sirens and the turnout gear is not the same, good try though

  • fdny jockers lol same lookn rigs same eq2b sirens and same turn out gear

  • Not assuming anything here. But, if I'm not mistaken, Camden has a very high arson rate. So it could be a possibility, but then again, this is during the day and in a commercial building, so it could be electrical or something like that as well.

  • yeah .... I hear that lack of manpower thing... We are currently responding with 2 guys on a piece... On everything.... Its sad!!!! But financial crisis.... Can't hire any more firefighters.... but they promote the mayors boys before he leaves office. Politics and Public safety should not MIX!!!!!

  • Actually, the concept of using the bucket on the first floor is to push the fire out of the building, by operating on the roof, you have the potential to push the fire down into other stores or exposures.

  • that K12 sound just sticks out
