  • Hi, I suffer from posterior shin splints. I play football once a week due to the pain but I want to play more.I have tried gel insoles which have not made much of a difference and it is difficult to find a good pair to fit into football boots. How could using tape help me play at least twice a week? I don't want to see a podiatrist and pay a shit load to get custom made insoles before trying alternative solutions. After every game the pain and swelling is there and i do stretch before the game

  • @mfshah2007 Have you had a gait analysis to know if you need arch support insoles or flat shock absorbing ones. This doesn't cost that much usually at a specialist running shop. Taping can help to reduce the pull of the muscles on the bone

  • @sportsinjuryclinic I was told that my arches were low and that shock-absorbing insoles would help.As far as a gait analysis goes, I'm not sure what that means? But I visited a sports clinic regarding this problem. Whether i needed shock-absorbing insoles or arch support insoles were not mentioned specifically. The physio said if shock-absorbing insoles didn't work then I should visit their podiatrist and get a pair made for me. Regarding taping, would you advise playing football with taping on?

  • @mfshah2007 If your arches are low then you more than likely need arch support insoles which are raised up on the inner foot to support the arch. Gait analysis is where your walking or running style is observed to determine if you overpronate etc and what kind of insoles / running shoes you would need.

Yes you can tape to play football in

  • could you develop shin splints from a weak ankle? i have a terrile ankle problem that effects the way i walk and the pain is all the way up to my knee. i have been expierencing pain that seems like shin splints but i haven't been doing running or anything..how can i tell if it is shin splints or another issue with my ankle

  • @fitchchick411 Ankle problems can definitely cause shin splints, although they tend to only occur if you are running or walking lots. Have you had any treatment for your ankle? Or at least had a professional look at it?

  • @sportsinjuryclinic The physio didn't make me walk or run but just examined me in a standing position as well as closely examining my tendons, bones and muscles. The thing is it is quite difficult to find a pair that will fit into football boots AND that feel comfortable at the same time. I will look for a different pair meantime I will try playing with tape. Should I use the same taping technique that is shown in this video?

  • yes i have been in and out of physical therapy multiple times and have been so many doctors about my ankle but not within the past couple months so i have not talked to a doctor about the pain in my shins i have been getting

  • @DaTux91 you have been damaged by heal strike and you have to learn how to run again.... you have to learn to run barefoot, I have had shin splints for 20 years and they are always there just below the surface.. all caused by soft spongy trainers... you MUST learn to run barefoot.. do this (it will take a year) and all the while read and read read Gordon Piries Book "Running fast and injury free" also... use edema massage 24 hours after shins splints flare up

  • Wow. 5 years of this shit. tried this for footy weekend just gone. huge difference, could feel a slight pain just from the soreness before having used the tape. but thats great. thanks heaps. hopefully it sustains it!!!!!
