#2 WAXMAN-MARKEY "CARBON CAPTURE" BILL:
On a call with Rep. Waxman, climate advocacy group 1Sky asked him some straightforward questions about the upcoming bill that is set to be passed in a few days.
It has significant deficiencies
a)it only calls for an 18% reduction (over 1990 levels) by 2020. The UN Conference in Bali stated that 25% reduction was MINIMUM to avoid catastrophic climate change.
b)It gives out 50% of pollution permits for free instead of 100% auction Obama wanted. Supposedly this will be passed onto customers but theres nothing in the bill that enforces that.
c)EPA is removed from the picture and has no jurisdiction when it comes to enforcing the Waxman-Markey bill. When asked about this, Waxman said that the spectre of the EPA hadnt helped before so it wouldnt help now.. but WAIT, wasnt that the EPA led by Bush-appointed Stephen Johnson, the same guy who made it illegal for states to have their own environmental laws?
