Sonic The Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone, Act 1 - 25s Speed Run

A trip down memory lane, and a sparkling blue visit to spiky impalement of the speediest kind.

Join me as I whoosh, careen, and tumble through the first act of (in my opinion) one of the best games ever made: Sonic The Hedgehog for the Sega Megadrive (Japanese and European name), or Sega Genesis (North American name).

My all time records are as follows:

Green Hill Zone, Act 1: 25 seconds.
Green Hill Zone, Act 2: 18 seconds.
Green Hill Zone, Act 3: 37 seconds.

I'm sure that all three levels can theoretically be done slightly faster.

Advice: To get 25s, you should make as many small jumps off of downward sloping surfaces as possible. You can see examples of this early on in the video. Additionally, you should press jump repeatedly whilst in the chute near the end; it speeds you up considerably. Also, the loop the loop is a place to gain extra speed. Jump up into it and then down the other side, rather than just rolling all the way around it.

Tip: The Level Select menu can be brought up on the title screen by pressing UP, DOWN , LEFT, RIGHT, and then holding down the 'A' button and pressing start.

I'm surprised that people are still playing Sonic after 16 years. Perhaps it's a testament to the greatness of the game. Or perhaps we are all mentally ill and need to be spanked by a plump matron.

damn my record is 30 secs and im 13 i get stuck on a small ramp at the start cos i don't go fast enough so that why it takes generally 30-35 secs to complete it
