Great resource for teachers. This astronomy song describes why meteors glow. Read on for lyrics...
Shooting Star

A shooting star is not a star,
not a star at all.
A shooting star's a meteor
that's headed for a fall.

A shooting star is not a star,
Why does it shine so bright?
The friction as it falls through air
produces heat and light

A shooting star or meteor
whichever name you like
The minute it falls down to Earth
it's called a meteorite!

  • it was definetly this version =D

  • That is SO Cool!

    Thank you for telling me!

  • omg we listened to this in our science class today =D

  • was it They Might Be Giants, Hy Zaret, or was it (against great odds!) the Big Bang Band version you heard? We learned it from TMBG.

After our shows if we ask kids what they learned, they often say "I learned a shooting star is not a star"
