Mumbai Zoo

On Oct 30, '10, I had a small errand to run at the Yacht Club, near hotel Taj. Down town and free at 11am, I decided to repeat an activity which is mainly for children (education & entertainment) - I decided to visit the museum (Prince of Wales) and the Mumbai zoo (Jijamata Udyan). But museum ticket window displayed 'Rs 1000/- for shooting with video camera'! So I headed for the zoo at Byculla by a BEST bus. Here, my admission was free as I am 60 now and was charged only 30/- for the camera... although there were not too many animals here; but I enjoyed the - pollution free, lush green part of this city.

@arrunz yes you are right. but perhaps in a few years the zoo might get upgraded as they are getting help from singapore. but there's no guarantee WHEN?

@arrunz yes the place is really very small. it is anyways in the middle of south mumbai.zoo should have been moved out 30 years back perhaps...

@arrunz ahh yes, the mumbai zoo is in a terrible condition before the lioness was moved she was alone for 6 years, the rhino has been alone for 22 years. and the zoo is not even allowed to bring more animals until 2015 according to an article online, until then many other animals might die of being lonely

@ImWaitenOnANoob empty cage is shown to show that there is no lion. this is my style of reporting. Yes there was a lion much earlier; but was moved else where because he/she was lonely.

I read online that there was a lioness there named Jimmy. Did it die or something or was it just not on display?

6 years ago i paid a visit to this zoo and i think nothing has changed since then, the animals actually are in a poor condition

I completely agree with you. Our zoo is in dire straights. Animals are suffering and will continue till authorities change their attitude and do something positive soon.
