  • How can I have this concert on a DVD ? is there anyway to buy if I am outside The Arabic Countries ? There are no words that could describe their talents !! Do you have any idea if there is gonna be a concert in Canada ? Thank you

This concert was in Haifa/ PALESTINE .

  • The concert is not available on DVD/sale. I found this concert on ARTE TV website. Well, I do not have any idea if there is any coming concerts in Canada. For info in this regard, please check their website's updates: letriojoubran . com

  • That's right, I found that out in the meantime.

I'm interested in the historical link between european and arabic music (by way of the Andalusian melting pot) and in the way songs travel, connect and inspire.

Are you arabic yourself? If you like, I can post a few links to versions of Asturias (or Leyenda, which means legend) on flamenco guitar and violin.

(There's also a band called Radio Tarifa that recorded a lot of songs from that region, like the famous Lamma Bada.)

  • yes iam.

i listened to a few players on guitar and piano, but not on violin, please do post the link.

I think that trio are the first band who played "Asturias" on oud :)

aha.. you mean "lama bada yatathana"?

samir sing it too ;) Iam going to listen to "Radio Tarifa".

    thanks & regards..

  • Thanks, much obliged. But this version is a lot different from the one on the album (which I just got today). I meant the theme that starts at about 2:00, isn't that from a classical composer? Anyway, they're very very talented, so thanks for sharing!

  • What a great arrangement! I am going through YouTube and watching all the oud versions of Asturias, because I heard the great American oudist John Bilezikjian play a it this weekend, and I think I may like the song better on oud than on guitar!

I also uploaded John Bilezikjian's version to YouTube. I am attaching the link as a response in case you are interested in hearing it.

  • amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

  • just waaw . amazing . thanxxx amool

    its awesome

  • Yes, it is the same sentence but the difference lies within the instrument's type.

I discovered that " Asturias" is a classical piece of music written by Isaac Albeniz who was a Spanish Catalan pianist and a composer.

So, Safar is a mixture of pure arabic music and spanish flamenco as samir stated.

  • Aha... it's like in Spanish Caravan by The Doors. But why is it called the al Astorius Sentence? Was he a composer?

  • That's absolutely true. They keep on improvising in there concerts; thats why you feel that it is not the original "safar", it's safar with improvisation. at 2:00 Samir started playing The "al Astorius Sentence" which became one of the classical sentences in the world of al Taqasim.

Samir also played this "Astorius Sentence" at the end of "El Nesf El Akhar" from his album Tamaas.

there is no need to thank me, iam so in love with their music :)

enjoy listening to the CDz ..
