I don't think Sarek was out of character as well. Vulcans feel emotions they just don't express it.
He's not lying by saying he loves his wife. It's just that he loves his wife without ever letting that emotion to the surface. It would have been out of character if it was said in a passionate way. but just stating an emotion he has that he is suppressing is not wrong.

Hmmm...I can't say I agreed with...any of this...but hey you know it's like you said at the beginning. It's your thoughts and feelings and that's fine. I just happened to greatly enjoy it is all. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I don't actually know much about Star Trek on a large scale. I've never even seen an episode of Voyager or Enterprise. I just liked it. Looking forward to the skype call tomorrow!

The new Star Trek Film is so much star trek as highlander 2 is highlander for me. So its a nice action sci-fi movie but its definately not star trek.

The car was mentioned as an antique of his dads. And this just makes it worse, because he destroyed his dead dads 200 year old antique (Probably a prized posession). As far as Spocks dad, it should be noted that Vulcans have emotions (Very strong ones, in fact), they just suppress them most of the time. If they didn't feel any kind of love, they'd just sthup whatever vulcan of the opposite sex was also in heat. I got a bucket of opinions on the subject, but I'm outa space here...

continued,
Why was the Enterprise being built on the ground and not in space? How did they lift such a great ship into orbit? What happened to those orbiting space docks we've always seen? Why does the engine room look like the Titanic's engine room? While everything else is "state of the art?" Why didn't Nero just fly back to Romulan space after he got the red matter and destroy that star well in advance of it going nova. Hence saving his planet.
Rhetorical questions. Answer= bad writing.

I want to know why Nurse Chapel wasn't in the movie? Hell, she was in the first season of Star Trek. Chekov wasn't. He didn't show up until the second season. And Nurse Chapel was totally in love with Mr. Spock in the old series.
Did Paramount have to use the new Uhura's beauty and not cast another woman? I guess Uhura wouldn't have had any lines more than "hailing frequencies open, sir" I guess they wanted Uhura's face on the screen as much as possible?

Didn't see it yet, but I know I will see it.
I am no Trekkie, by any means, I've only seen a few episodes of... the season with Cap'n Picard.. Is that Voyager? :P
Annnd the movie is meant for action, not Star Trek cannon, imo.
By the way, JJ Abrams, a main writer, said he barely saw Star Trek, so don't expect it to be awesome in comparison to the series.
This is an action flick.
I learned a lot about Vulcans today, but the comments defending the thing that made you leave seem valid.

i'd love to know what a new person to the trek might think of this, as its ment to intro new people into it - please write or make a video about what you think about the movie, the people in it, etc
