Dead End 2009
"There were many doors I was afraid to open
my heart knew what was behind them
Please sweetheart - walk away"
"To whom it may concern" was written in his blood on the livingroom wall
On the tube was Tiger Woods 5 strokes back
next to his body was a soggy bowl of apple jacks cereal
there's stillness because of the dramatic change in mood
you can just tell these things
now it's uneasy
It's sad and nothing can be done anymore
Let us look back on this man's life for a few moments
He was born He lived and he died - in a Gumpesque fashion
Having pleasant dreams was his daily endeavor
seduced by old school smiles and longing for 1985
Phone calls are being made
arrangements should be simple since we're regulars
It will be a packed house
with an excellent array of fossils, chicharrones and wheat thins
oh...and some sour apples
witches and princesses will attend in there best quince dress
and Beatles music will be playing softly in the back
cool enough to hum All you need is love
tears will flood the room...and pour out home...
to make it to the arroyo....and saturate Cassiano Park
Canoes are available for rental
next to the gift shop with plastic flowers and hallmark cards
tonite when you hear La llorona wailing
and lying in your beds
ponder - To whom it may concern
I cared for him.
I never knew he was sad.
We just saw him last week at the barbecue
Why would he do this during the best time of his life?
He was so young.
He will be missed.
Who wants to go to Dairy Queen? Tengo un chingo de hambre
I'm so uncomfortable in these shoes
I wanna leave but I don't want to be rude
---------------------------------------
There was something pretty about the junkie
walking beside...asking for money
like a curiousity and a meniacle mood swing to join in and get wired
evading him to ride the VIA bus
he walks away towards a corner market
I see a row of dead end streets
covered in faded murials of significant Mexicans
Ice Cream Van driving by with circus happy sounds
heat rising from the streets
as barefooted pregnant woman yell at their stray children
old ladies pushing a grocery cart collecting soda and beer cans
tatooed men smoking black n milds, laced, and a polarizing stare
I walk into the bus thankful for the cool air
and brief freedom
staring out the window the view of broken down blue houses
a filthy German Shepherds tongue laying helpless on the dirt
swarmed with flies
a 15 minute train stop, overheated cars, and a headache setting in
Feliz Navidad signs and Christmas lights in the middle of July
The smell of old humid death
This is how I remember it
This is how it is
deep man deep
