I'm fuming!! I know.... What's new, right? Seriously this time I'm heated about nonsensical insurance company denials of continuous glucose monitoring systems.

  • how many times a year do you and your diabetes health care team change the parameters you use to decide how much insulin to take and when? (carb ratio, correction factor, static pre meal dose, static once a day Lantus dose, static twice a day premixed dose?

  • I loved your video. I have had diabetes for 30 years and they have been promising me that the experts were on the "verge" of finding a cure since 1979. There is a big business in diabetic healthcare (and healthcare in general). Like you said, "Capitalism, you have created a monster." Thank you for your heartfelt video. I am going this week to see if I can get a monitor...we shall see.

  • Going out of pocket for the "guardian real-time" was an easy choice for me. It's a new technology that has yet to become perfected, yet at this point it is way worth it. It would be like if your broke your arm and they said that having a cast to fix it is too expensive. I don't care, I'll just buy one my self until the insurance figures out that diabetes care is much cheaper than the care for complications.

  • All of the appeals will help them "get the message" too. Keep on appealing everyone who keeps on getting denied cgms!

Just remember, back in the day the same battle was being fought for coverage for blood glucose machines! That was pretty unbelievable that they thought that blood glucose meters were not "medically necessary"!

Allison, sorry I got Amylin and C-Peptide confused! Keep up the good work!

  • I think it's just a matter of time before the insurance companies start approving it. There's just a couple of insurance companies that approve cgms right off of the bat for type 1 (ex. united healthcare). The insurance companies are arrogant and anal about what gets approved and what doesn't, but EVENTUALLY they will figure it out. It's just a matter of time, but who knows how long that will be! There are some that will NEVER figure it out too.
