@DubiousOwl yes, but besides Dyson Sphere, there are also other methods to harvest the sun's energy. The Dyson Sphere could be easily destroyed from asteroids, meteor or other things that could possibly interfere, and, we cannot observe what is out there.
@pieluverftw I believe type 2 civilization means that we will surround the sun in a Dyson Sphere and harvest all its energy. Not just the insignificant and few rays that hits the small speck that is earth.
@0x00FABADA well, when Dr. Kaku mentioned about Type II civilization, he explained that this type of civilization will have full control of a star, and use it's energy. I mean, i understand what you meant by, however, using photosynthesis doesn't make them a Type II civilization, because they don't have full control of our sun. So according to your classification, if we use solar panels for solar energy, we are a Type II civilization?
According to his classification, plants are type II civilizations, given that they directly harness the energy from their mother star through photosynthesis. But photosynthetic organisms have existed on Earth since long before any humans capable of establishing one of those world governments Mr. Kaku claims are required in order to arrive to a type I civilization. If plants have arrived to a type II civilization without a world government, what is this man talking about?
I appreciate your point, @pieluverftw, and I agree with you in several ways, up until the Type 1 Civilization thingie. You see, I don't think that Mr. Kaku's classification makes much sense, hence I can't fully agree with you. Mr. Kaku may be an authority in physics, but he shows basic misunderstandings regarding biology, so he might not be the most appropriate person to define the optimal policy for extra-terrestrial life search.
@0x00FABADA ya you're right, but i think there is a misunderstanding between us, what i'm trying to state is that people have developed throughout history because instead of only technology development, our ethics are also developing, and now, as you said, we also create weapons that kill more easily, like nuclear weapons, which could make earth become a planet like mars, and these are the things that prevent us from developing into a Type 1 Civilization
I think this debate over religion and a world government proves that with every point made, we are one point closer to a type 1 society of logic, understanding, and rationale.
@u235u235u235 Not trying to find purpose and I dont think what I found makes me feel good. If I am going along with what the Christian God and others taught me as you said, that would make me a conformist, if I dont, that would make me a rebel to that which I was born to and what others taught me. rebels and conformists are the same(equal/opposite). what or who taught you to be an atheist? I rebelled at first a sought other alternatives but as it turned out what I rebelled against was better.
@fudgedogbannana If it makes you feel good to believe in something to give you purpose then I wish you the best. Yes, I was born into a christian house. And I still consider myself a cultural christian. And rebel is the wrong word.
