Ballerina assolutas- Galina Ulanova, Maya Plisetskaya, Alicia Alonso and Margot Fonteyn. As far as I'm concerned, it's an absurdity that Makarova wasn't awarded this title.

Love watching Makarova. She's so strong and precise, veritably starched and ironed, just like her tutu. Monumental in quality. But she seems a bit mismatched with Baryshnikov, who is grace, lightness, and fluidity. And he may be a little small for her. He seems to shudder under the weight of a lift. Still, love to watch this one. Two greats performing extremely well.

I believe that Makarova danced only Florine at the Kirov. I think that her variation on this dvd shows why. Everything is quite glorious except the magnitude - it is like a dollhouse miniature of, for example, a Kolpakova or a Sizova recorded performance of the same variation.
