i do like mel gibson, as an actor. hes a good actor, really. movies like payback, ransom, lethal weapon, etc.
have not seen passion of the christ, but i agree with GX93100, i think it would be kinda painful to watch.

mystery men is a nice movie with some funny parts
the patriot is good not the best movie but better then passion of the christ (it's not i hate this movie, but i don't understand the fact to torture a guy for 2 hours...i love gore movies but here it's boring)

It was Mel Gibson's attempt to converting people into christianity with a propagational film to make the mythological figure of Jesus appear to be a hero. All it did was destroy his career haha!
