"You Belong to the City" is a rock song written by Glenn Frey (of the Eagles) and Jack Tempchin, and recorded by Frey during his solo career. It was written specifically for the television show Miami Vice in 1985. The song nearly reached the top of the charts, peaking at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, although it did reach the top of the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart.[1] This song, along with Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice Theme", helped the Miami Vice Soundtrack album reach the top spot of the Billboard 200 chart for 11 weeks in 1985, making it the best-selling album of the year and the most successful TV soundtrack of all time.[citation needed] Frey performs this song live when touring with the Eagles.

  • One hell of a great example of the sound of the mid 80s. Awesome. Timeless.

  • I wish I had lived through the 80's, because the 2000's sucked compared to the 80's.

  • Old is gold. Jay-Z sampled this for "The City is Mine"

  • Tubbs' theme ... before the show lost its way and gave the originally burnt-out and jaded Crockett a glamour upgrade and made him, instead of smart city cop Tubbs, the lead.

  • @verizon20051 THE 80'S ROCKED was a time of over indulgence. the music (except the british new wave crap), the parties, and most of all the free lovin smokin BABES!!!!!

  • @NWOWorldPeace2012 I was born in 1966 and was fortunate enough to have come of age during the greatest decade. Too bad you weren't old enough to have been able to have enjoyed that great decade as I did.

  • @verizon20051 I lived all my teenage years during the 80's and my friend, you unfortunately missed the greatest decade. You would've loved it.

  • This was the perfect song for an awesome TV show (Miami Vice) in an awesome decade!! I LOVE THE 80's!! I am fortunate to have lived in that era because I was born in 73 and was a kid/pre-teen when this song came out! Miami Vice was one of the best TV shows of the 80's!

  • @verizon20051 It was a great decade. In happier times.
