Alfredo KEIL (1850-1907)

Keil was one of the most well known Portuguese composers.

The original actual Portuguese Anthem (info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Portuguesa) was composed by him. And so were some operas such as 'D. Branca', 'Serrana' and 'Irene', as well as several piano solo or piano-voice pieces.

His works are most interesting to the Belle Époque study. His many paintings showed how the life was in a Portugal that (almost) no longer exists. And his music: the opera!; the small songs like this, which were to be usually performed by women (pianoforte and/or voice) in the richer "circles"; - all of these are belle époque elements.

Keil's genious inheritance is still an unstudied subject but thats one of the ways YouTube is useful isnt it? :-)

The music is like a mixture of Chopin and Puccini !
