there was another thriller/scary movie around this time about a whole society of people under a mountain. It had tunnels and scary programmed people. Maybe this is it? it starts on a snowy mtn where they fall into the sink hole and find this scary place

And they serve as examples for the great productions we have these days...Although with the whole CG thing, which is quite fun when used properly, imagination on the part of the viewers is quite not needed when watching most of the movies =(
