A stupendous performance of Funérailles, a huge piano piece (the seventh of the 'Harmonies poétiques et religieuses') by Franz Liszt (as transcribed by Jeanne Demessieux [1921-1968], titular organist of la Madeleine in Paris) by Demessieux's pupil Pierre Labric on the equally stupendous 1890 Aristide Cavaillé-Coll Grand Organ (IV/P/64ss) in the former Abbey Church of Saint Ouen, Rouen (Upper Normandy). This video came from the Aeolus Music website: a truncated version (uploaded when the limit was 10 minutes) is available on their YouTube channel. Please buy the stunning CD from which this recording came - you will not regret it!

  • @a55b47 - and, given how turgid his Tournemire Te Deum at Yale is, I don't think he can criticise!

  • @a55b47 I like it, but it is surprisingly different to the original piano version (which is amoung the greatest pieces ever composed).

  • Not a clear recording. Not a good criteria in organ registration balance. Not a good interpretation. A real pity considering such a paramount instrument.
