We sang this two years ago my freshman year of high school, then we sang The Promise of Living (also from The Tenderland) last year.

@choirboybjs I know it's from an Opera. It's called The Tenderland. That doesn't change how I feel about the text.

@stagexdiva18 It's from an opera. It's supposed to be comical.

I'm singing this in my choir at Campbell University. Love the music, hate the text. It's so sexist.
-
nice job guys, it sounded really good

This must be what choirs do now, but I'm 57 years old and have never sung it. To my great regret. Would love to.

My choir is preparing a performance of this! We get to dance too!

It is a reflection of the values of a much different era that's for sure - hence why one must perform with a certain amount of sarcasm... :-)

My choir is preparing a performance of this! We get to dance too! I love it -- its so much fun to get into the character and the music.

If this is Copeland's best work. This is terrible if my choir would do mostly this stuff they could count me out. Pee UUU

@drkknight27,
Aaron Copland is probably better known for orchestral compositions. "Stomp Your Foot" is actually an excerpt from Copland's opera (which also met mixed reviews in its time), "The Tender Land." This particular choral arrangement is one which probably nearly every choral singer has sung once or twice since about junior high school.

Well done. My choir is getting this ready and we are so stiff! I am inspired to have a little more fun.

Great! Good luck on your performance. Copland certainly intended for it to be a little "tongue and cheek" with the interaction between the roles of men and women.
