i plan to upgrade my dell inspiron 1000.
many ppl have said its impossible for this notebook to have 1gb or more ram. i want to prove them wrong. so i plan to install 1gb ram and run that with the 256mb. i also plan to get a new hard drive and use the old 30gb one as an external. and maybe vista? idk i think xp is better. whats your opinion?

  • Anybody else think that was retarded

  • nope not really

  • The CPU in these can handle XP by a small margin, I can't imagine it liking vista at all. I'm posting from mine too btw, the only thing i've upgraded is more ram.

  • nah i didn't put vista on it, i put something way better. that vid will be out, check out my vista on xp video for more details

  • i have the same laptop.

i upgraded the hard drive from a 30gb to an 80gb one.

then i upgraded the ram from 256 to 512.

thats all you can do with such a basic laptop.

  • the 1gb of ram worked. yah buts its alright, its way better than before. i added a new os on it also, that vid is up

  • @SJEKoken gl finding your software :P

  • @degan6 agreed :P

  • Save the time, effort, and money ... go Linux and dump the windoze ...

  • Hey, just to let you know i just put a 2.6Ghz P4 cpu inside my dell 1000, its working fine no issues, only thing i can see what it has done is under clocked the processor to 2.0Ghz, still its better than the original cpu!

  • I have a 1000. It's a total piece of shit. Slow, bad battery. Dell sucks balls. They can shove this computer up their corporate asses. Fuck you Dell and all the little cunts who work there!
