"Eruption" is a famous guitar solo originally written and performed by Eddie Van Halen. Eruption often appears on many 'greatest guitar solos' lists. It is often played together with "You Really Got Me", which follows the song on the album Van Halen.

I always wanted to learn this solo and so I sat down and learn't it today! Extremely challenging. I found the hardest thing with this solo is not technique but stamina. You need to build your muscles to keep up with the tempo! Worth learning though as a great warm up exercise.

Used my Digitech Whammy pedal as I don't have a whammy bar! I had lots of reverb on my Fender Hot Rod Deville amp, and I cranked the distortion on my TC Nova System up to 28 (Out of 30). I also used some dealy and compression on the pedal. My guitar is a Japanese Fender Telecaster going with DiMazio fast track pickups in the bridge and Bare Knuckle Blue Note P90's in the neck pick up.

Guitar lesson coming soon! :-)

  • Eruption solo is a huge accomplishment nice work!!

  • @gspeigle Cheers my friend

  • hello mate, spoke to you a few weeks ago about your set up, and sorry but i have another question..... have you used your set up with a live band?? still not sure weather to get the nova and hope that it cuts it with the HRD 410 in a live band, or sell the amp and get something more gritty, its the drives that i have doubts about....

  • @locolegsharvey Hey dude! I have used it live as well and it sound phat! It does feedback a little with high distortion levels. Depending on the style of music. Rock it's 100% yes but not great for metal. It can cater for funk, jazz, blues ect though with ease. Worth every penny. If you go straight to the manufacture and your in a band they sell it half price if you do a promo vid for them :-)
