The Power of Myth changed my life when I read it back in the mid-eighties. I was homeless and broke. It gave me the three words I needed to know: Follow Your Bliss.
What resulted was four years later I made a movie called Daredreamer....a musical which embraces this. 100 cast, all original soundtrack. Please, if interested, check it out. I love love love Joseph Campbell and am eternally grateful for his work

I think he may have meant that instead of living a life that our society or our parents expect us to live, we must each listen to our intuition and follow our own unique path. Once you know what that true path is for yourself, then your only plan is simply to stay on that path.

@leviterande The life we have planned is not always the life we really want for ourselves. Campbell is comparing the idea of following what parents/teachers etc. want for us, to what we feel is right for our own life. I think all he is really saying is open yourself up to whatever comes your way and don't allow yourself to be restricted.
