My composer friends James "Sarmad" Brody & Franz Kamin died in a car crash on April 11, 2010. On December 21st of the same yr I was in Barrytown, NY, to interview people in that area who'd known Franz for a long time & collaborated w/ him & published him: Susan & George Quasha (Station Hill Press), Chuck Stein, Robert Kelly, & John Beaulieu. John had known Franz since 1971 & had collaborated w/ him on Fiascos & Synaesthetics Inc, amongst other things. I've been working on a documentary about Franz called "Depot" & my vaudeoing of John (wch was made as a part of "Depot") deserves to be presented in its 'entirety' independent of its shortened & fragmented inclusion in the finished doc. John's reminiscences about Franz reveal not only the complexity of Kamin's personality & talents but also those of the friends who deeply loved & appreciated him. While the tales that're told may sometimes seem to paint a somewhat grim picture of Franz's personality, in the end, I think & feel that it's Franz's creative genius & the profound affection of his friends that ultimately shines thru. This edit is a very rough cut & is rendered in lo-res to enable it to fit on YouTube in one piece. - February 19, 2011 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
