An overview of using a hand held GPS receiver for hiking, trekking, hunting, fishing, or any other wilderness travel. We mark the position of our vehicle at the trail head, set the GPS receiver to auto-track out route, mark points of interest along the way, and then finally save our route as a track for future use. This is not a tutorial on how to use the menu, just an overview of how it can be used in a few different situations.

  • Can you download maps/trails? Appalacian Trail?

  • @Z3Carpentry Most of the newer GPS receivers allow for downloads of custom topo maps. I am not sure about that trail specifically, but I am sure there should be something out there. With the Magellan Triton 400 I have some custom maps of my area that actually show satellite image. Storage space on the unit will be the main concern with larger maps. Hope that helps, and thanks a lot for watching the vid :-)
