@Muffinman071 its not that hard. they were able to do that a century ago. uranium is a radio isotope, so it has a half life. (pretty sure what i am talking about but not sure its 100% accurate) it emits positively charged particles called alpha particles as it undergoes radioactive decay. you can shoot these at any object and most of them will pass through.

Can someone please tell me how the number of protons of an element is determined? Like, how do scientists know that Lithium has 3 protons? I know that the number of protons and electrons are the same, and they determine the number of protons based on the number of electrons, but how do they do this? Thank you very much!

I ended up in a liberal arts University, and was a professional musician and professor many years. After watching this I think you are my new hero. I wish I had found the beauty in science at an early age. Now I am 44 and retired. If you have any suggestions of sites lectures etc, they would not go unappreciated. I have watched Everything and Nothing many times. Any Brian Cox specials etc. It brings me peace. Thank You!
I'm here because I want to get an A in chemistry! :D This video was really helpful!
