This video (re-made) expresses my view on the difference between faith (defined as "belief without evidence") and the scientific method.

Put simply, the problem with faith is that it is not self-correcting -- there is no mechanism internal to it that will cause someone to realize when they have lost their way. The power of a compass (in navigation) is NOT that it points forward when you are looking North but rather that it will NOT point forward when you are not facing North. Without having to change your destination or method, the compass allows for self-correction.

You see, I don't find it significant that people of faith think that they are right. What I find significant is that they never think they are wrong (about the subject in which they apply faith). With so many people claiming to be headed for a universal, singular "truth" (one which hasn't been evidenced), we should question people's methods when they run into each other and disagree about everything.

  • @490er Agreed. (Watch the puctuation....I had to read this twice.)

  • Very intelligent presentation, but if you are familiar with what happened to the Alexandrian Library in 415 ad, you would understand that somebody "...already has gotten hurt".
