Maybe, but probably. The certification attaches to the projector and altering it in some material way would certainly be considered a new manufacturing which would require a new certification. Moving a diode in and of itself does not void a certification but the results of that move almost always will void it.

Additionally, if my diode that is housed currently is not the original does it void the FDA approval and thus make the laser illegal to operate?

That's no fun ;) haha
I guess I'll stick with my Atomic 3000. I can blind people with that.
Hey Brian I'm 15 yr old DJ from Chicago, and I may be looking into buying some lasers. What is a low cost but quality laser that I can start out with.
Thanks!!

"Low Cost" and "Quality" are two words that typically don't go together when it comes to laser effects.
Seeing how you are 15, you are limited to the 4.9 mw type pieces. Many of the effect lasers out there are class 3A 4.9 mw or lower, like the X-Laser Pyro, Air, and ADJ Galaxian.
On the low end of the pricing scale, you're looking at about $300 and it goes up from there

Is it possible to have another person sign the variance for you?

Only if the other person plans operating it

plans on operating it, rather.
There's no work-around for it, kids. You must be 18, so pick up some cool effect pieces in the mean time that are class 3A
