Showing off the CAD model for my latest bandsaw/sawmill plans. Bet you didn't know SketchUp can do that!

  • Great work,

Question... Is that the free-side, or the pay-side of sketchup ?

  • Just the free side.

  • Wow, this rocks Matthias!

How long did it take you to make this set of plans?

  • Far too long. For weeks on and off. Getting the CAD model just right is only part of the effort that goes into a set of plans.

  • How do you post your Sketchup drawings on youtube?

  • I made a video using CamStudio to do screen captures to video.

  • Yeah, unusual to get two thumbs down this early. Maybe it's because it's for something that I sell.

  • Yes, it took an incredible amount of time. I hit burnout every time I put together a new set of plans.

  • You sir need a mig and a plasma!

  • Really nice use of Sketchup!

And great detail in the designs too.

I've been trying to help the FreeCAD project recently (check -out my channel for links inf your interested), I wish FreeCAD could do all the things shown in your vid!

  • @Mauser712 i did buy the band saw and i am happy with it. it work fine. next time i till go for the grizzly but for now this is good. the guy from who i bought it didnt used so it was new. i think some tools are still ok not all of them just some.

  • @Matthiaswandel Thanks for the information.

  • @Matthiaswandel I can sympathize with how tedious it can be sometimes to do up a good CAD model. On the other hand, I figure the time saved and frustration avoided by having a good model more than makes up for the effort.

  • @Matthiaswandel

I started to consider to buy the plans just to get my hands on this Sketchup build to pry it apart and see how you made it.

I seriously think that with this results you can make set of videos of how to make such plans - and sell it together with sketchup templates for making such plans. At the same time your ability to churn such plans out will skyrocket if you do it.

    Something to think about :)

    Greetings from Poland, Matthias!
