I went to interview Pete Best about his life and illustrious career. Despite the fact that I had to Ken Burns the cutaways (notice they're all stills) I still think it came out great...

  • The Beatles producer didn't decide to get a different drummer, John, Paul, and George wanted Ringo, and Not Pete. Listen to various interviews and find out for yourself.

  • Many reasons abound for the exact reason WHY the Beatles wanted Pete fired ... and it was Brian Epstein who actually told Pete he was out and Ringo was in. Let it suffice to say there is an ARMY of people who were actually there (in Liverpool and in Hamburg) ... fans, other musicians, etc. who state emphatically that Ringo was NOT a better drummer.

  • @mkrobinson95 He also was used although Ringo was in the band, so... =)

  • "Well, after that first test, I decided that the drums, which are really the backbone of a good rock group, didn't give the boys enough support. They needed a good solid beat and I said to Brian, "Look, it doesn't matter what you do with the boys, but on record, nobody need know. I'm gonna use a hot drummer," and I used the guy who was the best session drummer of the period."

  • Your statement is quite wrong when you state "the Bealte's producer decided to get the band a different drummer". It is a well documented fact that George Martin never suggested Pete be replaced as the Beatles drummer. Rather, for the recording sessions, Martin wanted to use a session drummer. In a recent interview Martin explains what happened after the Beatles first audition for Parlophone:

  • no ringo isnt an idiot. he seems like a nice guy, and not the bad guy here.

  • It sucks what happened to Pete Best. He was replaced by an idiot!

  • You forgot, he outlived 3 bandmates... Stuart Sutcliffe was one of the originals as well. He died a very short while after joining. I'm not sure if Pete had started drumming at that point yet, but I'm pretty sure he was with the band (he was with them as part of the crew for his first year).
