In 1979, when moving into a new residence a Calgary family stumbled across some old belongings left behind by the previous owner. Amongst those items was a letter written by a 'Mr. Kwon'. Presumably a Chinese railroad worker who was among the many migrant workers helping build the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the late 1800s. Part of his letter is translated below:
"Our camp is talking about an American man who came from the south. People say he is crazy. Some say he is a dangerous killer and to be careful. I am not afraid. I saw him wearing Chinese clothes. He wore a Tangzhuang. I think he is a silly man. Americans, I will never understand their customs."
