He has never claimed he is the best. As a matter of fact about two weeks ago he said: "I am not the best nor the strongest out there, but I am good at what I do". I personally trained with many many teachers and have watched many many teachers and concluded one thing that Sensei James Coffman is still the best martial artist and teacher I have encountered so far. His Technique, Kata, fighting and teaching are all balanced and strong. Watch for his book - it will be published in the near future

He's not claiming that "first" means best or most knowledgeable? Either way, I bet he has seen the karate taught to him (not sure if he learned all the kata and system as a GI) change over the years or decades. Probably disappointed. I also think he learned the correct way as I have over the last 37 yrs, most of which in Okinawa.
