If you going to try SUSE you need to insure that your modem is installed in the hard drive not at software level.
Most printers work fine without any issues but HP support Linux so HP printers people be happy!
But Ubuntu as Automatix software for all you media codec like Real, Windows Media Player and Quick Time which it is miles ahead when it comes to popularity. Distro Watch say that it is the biggest GUI outside of MS Windows
