  • Nice clip of Andrew Jerrick starts around 1:22. He is missed by many. Andy passed in October of 2008.

  • Absolutely, what a great dancer. I saw your clip of him, too bad about the sound.., damned those WMG people..

  • Marilyn Winters is my step grandmother no lie!

  • Really, whatever happened to her? Do you have any videos or pictures? I've been looking for more information about her.

  • @rfmullig Was this music, played in Cuba? The answere is,it wasn't. Machito,Puente and Tito Rodriguez created this music. However, with their own styles,The black and white clip, was a movies that the Band was Tito Rodriguez Conjunto! Mario Bauza call it,Mambo Jazz!Which it hasn't any similarity to Prado's music. This music is pure Nuyorkina, see Noro,Socarra,Iznaga,Augusto Coen. The past cannot be undone! The dressing, dancing, the drugs, all nyc,Cuba is great,NYC is greater!

  • @calisii Very well stated! May Cachao RIP

  • @Salsa3914 Actually, no, almost all of these are rhythms that were highly influence by Africa, but evolved in Cuba.

Guanguanco, yambu, columbia, comparsa etc... these have VERY similar counterparts from Africa, but the music styles as we know them today evolved in Cuba. Obviously, there were also European and U.S. influences as well.

However, to say that the salsa that Willie Colón plays is Nyourican and not cuban is like saying the Flamenco the Ottmar Liebert plays is German and not Spanish.

  • @rfmullig if they are americans they think everything is american including the hamburger. Its a myopic self-centricness creating this "most people" attitude. You can see them posting on the wikipedia trying to fix historical evolution to what "they think" is right.

  • @Salsa3914 They call him Cuban pete but he is Puerto Rican. Cause people at that time knew the origins of the music is from Cuba. As you know before the revolution americans visit cuba in throngs for holidays and they saw the Cabaret and the Mambo.
