yup i would say its a great camera for a semi beginer.. =) this was my first ever SLR, as i had been doing some photography with good compact digitals cams, but i wanted to upgrade. and i am delighted with it. really easy to use, produces great quality photos, and very affordable.. =)
check out my site for some examples of photos taken with the EOS1000D (most of the 1000D ones are on the small life page)

Enfiled, I didn't make this vid to look professional, I made it to try and help people, or at least inform them, when buying a camera. I've done my reseaech, so what's to stop me from relaying this research to others? So far, I seem to have at least informed,if not helped, a fair amount of people, who I'm sure will back me up.. I'm not claiming to know everything, im just trying to help..

An EF-S lens is about the focus, and the S DOES mean short back focus. I know that you can get the IS version of this in jessops, but apart from that, im not sure. When i said i have a spare battery pack, i meant a spare battery. =]

I have a spare battery pack though, as it is much cheaper than a battery pack.

lolnumpty is correct. MP's are certainly not everything. This camera has a rather unspectacular (for an slr) 10mp's, but like lots of others with relatively average mp's, can still take stunnibg photos. After all, as the saying goes, "its not the size of your equipment, its how you use it." I'm afraid im not sure exactly how many photos it can take on one charge, but my 1000d can do roughly 4-5 good hours i think. Its a decent amount of time.
