Everyone melts aluminum! But melting copper and brass is a little more special. During this casting session, you get to see what happens to scrap bronze and brass (and impurities) as I melt them and repour as ingots.

Copper is a beautiful metal. I've come to the conclusion that it is nearly as simple to melt as aluminum, but a much better metal for sculpture and artwork. After all, when have you ever heard someone say "that's a lovely patina on that piece of aluminum?"

As usual, I try to throw in a few observations about the casting process and DIY setup.

From a casting session in October, 2010. Also, check out my other videos where I melt aluminum and copper and pour lost foam castings.

  • Shell casings seem to work just fine. I've melted a whole 5 gallon bucket of them. It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway - make sure there no live ammo among the shells. =)
