This ball-lifting device takes the Virginia Tech logo and turns it into a series of 4-bar linkages. The links oscillate repeatedly, lifting balls higher in the sculpture. By Eddie Boes www.eddiesmind.com

  • The Mechanical Demonstrator was timed to run for 7-8 minutes between class changes. It's very possible that you never walked by at the right time. If you are ever by it again, there is a black push-button in the upper left of the display case that will run the machine when held. In the meantime, I'm glad you could see it running in this video. -Eddie

  • Yeah...i kinda miss this thing. It was neat watching it go off @ class changes in Randolph...but then it went away. I vaguely remember marbles occasionally hopping off track though...I wonder if they were trying to recalibrate it or something?

  • Beatiful *-*

  • ive seen it running a few time, but part of it were always turned off...

it randomly disappeared though. not sure what they did with it.

  • More or less spooky that this is a product of VT, as I read the description I had that dejavu feeling.

  • I used to walk by this every day. It was never running.
