5J Coilgun

A coilgun I made with Niko at school.

Lead-acid battery as a power supply. Voltage cranked up by a switching mode circuit. ATMega16 handling the whole process. Laser beam for targetting.

It takes a bit more than one minute to charge up with this configuration. The projectiles kinetic energy is about 5J

I know there would be a lot to upgrade and some things have been done in a hurry. But this was just a project we did in school for mostly educational purposes and fun. It's no good for combat and the shooting part of the video is poor.

@teemune I was expecting more but i didn't know it was homemade which makes it pretty scary. You should focus your energy on something productive instead of destructive because you're obviously innovative.

@DedmanUmotionS Don't worry, I've graduated and designing proper electronics for work now. That pretty much summs up why I haven't made upgrades to this weapon.

most everyone seems to be missing the big picture here. this shows the possability of something greater. everyone keeps comparing this to a real firearm, but keep in mind the first "firearm" was little more than a bucket of rocks with a blackpowder charge.
