Hendrix of the Ukulele

Molokai Middle School students were so silent last Tuesday as Jake Shimabukuro stummed and picked his Kamaka Ukelele in the MMS cafeteria that you could hear the ceiling fans whir between notes.

The 31-year-old Honolulu resident stunned the young audience with his complex, heart-wrenching arrangement of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," a video of which has gotten almost 3 million views on YouTube. The crowd was sold.

I went to High School with Jake. Jake was incredibly talented back then. When he would play that ukulele in the gym or in between classes we couldn't imagine where it would take him until he plugged the amp into the base of the Uke and played for us during "Brown Bags to Stardom" auditions and it was incredible. He has been perfecting his talent since he was young has earned every bit of his success through hard work and dedication.

@zupunupi lol, its been a while since i tested myself, but i just listened to the whole thing in one breath. i used to be able to do 4 minutes. the world record is 19 minutes so this is nothing.
