Sorry, that's just not true. Regardless the price of the gear, the player will shine through.
Case in point, I read an interview with Setzer, and he played some stuff through Stevie's rig. He sounded like Setzer, not SRV.

the texas special pickups were,i believe, originaly developed for the srv signiture guitar made by fender.

you sould sheld the pickup cavidey with copper foil, it will cancel about 65% of the hum

Hi Dave,
I have A MIM Deluxe Players Stratocaster, it came with Vintage Noiseless Pickups, but i swapped them for Texas Specials, I too have a Fender DeVille Hot Rod 410, but i cannot get that dirty tone, im close, but not there yet, could it be the pickup height, or that the Strat is made of Ash wood. Also I play .12 - .58 strings.
BTW when i swapped the pickups, i left them as close to height as the stock noiseless were. I play very aggresively, and bend a lot too, but tone aint there.

i just love how you stop talking when you play, its like you're blanking out for a little while

He used Peavey amps?
-
got 'em bridge pickup has way to little output for rock songs, it just sounds too thin. Bridge and middle are cool, but if you wanna play some seriously overdriven stuff it's better either to replace the bridge-pu by a SD CoolRail or to use an other guitar

dont they make some called texas specials?
-
If you want to get rid of the without noiseless pups use the 2 and 4 positions,
Srv usually did that too, they did not have noiseless pups in those days...he also liked postion 5..the neck pup....hendrix much the opposite..he liked position 1 with the fuzz face.

Hey Players! Have you heard of the Fender Hot Noiseless pickups? If not you should try them. They come stock in a Jeff beck strat. I think they give a great tone, no noise. Unlike the sensors...they have punch., and sensitivity. They are not as chimy as alnicos but they sound more like a single coils than duncan cool rails.
They also make vintage noiseless, which come on a clapton strat. The hot noiseless sound great with just a little gain for an srv sound. The sustain is great. Try em!

Lace Sensor are regular single-coils. They are hum-free because of the shielding, wich prevents them from getting interference from other electronic equipment. =D
Hey Dave. when you put the texas specials in that guitar, did you do it yourself or have it done by a luthier?
