In my own personal interpretation... It's about someone who's tired of doing the right thing all the time. Maybe sometimes it's easier to be a complete prick and not care about being sincere and honest. And at the same time, by being a prick who doesn't care, you don't get hurt or affected by anything.

@gtarplyr18 i like that...i've been listening to this guster since they first came out and i always thought this song was about an infilelity in a relationship...when he says "will you know you've been deceived?" he's referring to the other person being cheated on...but yours i a great interpretation as well

This song is about not being yourself. When he says, "when i speak i cross my fingers..." he means to say that he hopes that people will not realize that he is trying to be someone else. Like when you meet someone for the first time, you don't always want to be yourself, because you are afraid that they will not like who you are. instead, you trying to be someone else, so you can "not be hurt" if they reject your true self. Maybe demon is a reference to the devil, who impersonates other things

pretty good song, definitely very meaningful and many people can relate to it. personally, guster just sounds a little too watered down, instrumental wise, for me to love them.
